Free Agent Future: Jayson Werth

Awwww, and I had an entire entry planned for V-Mart too…. Oh well…. Moving on.

Jayson Werth

2010 Stats

  • Avg .296
  • HR 27
  • RBI 85
  • Runs 106
  • SB 13

3 Main Elements of His Game.

  1. Bing! Yeah that’s the sound of the ball hitting the bat when Werth hits it. 27 Homeruns and 85 RBI would be a worthwhile addition to any ball club.
  2. Along with that pop, Werth also brings a soild average into the fold, hitting at a .296 clip in 2010.
  3. Some speed wouldn’t hurt anyone would it? Werth’s well rounded player status is solidified with his 13 stolen bases and 106 runs scored last year.

Red Sox 5 yr $95 million

Why the Red Sox?

Ughhhhhh…. the Red Sux Sox, I feel bad for Werth, but it does work. Both Cameron and Drew have 1 year left on both of their contracts so this is what I’m thinking. In 2010, Cameron will be the starting left-fielder with Ellsbury in center and Werth in right. Drew will be a “super-sub” that can play all 3 outfield positions and can fill in when one of the outfielders needs a rest or is injured, *cough* Mike Cameron*cough*. After the 2011 season, the Sox will let go off both Cameron and Drew, and allow Kalish to play left, Ellsbury in center, and Werth in right. Werth brings that middle-of-the order prescence that the Sox had lost in Victor Martinez. I think that Werth would bat 3rd in the Sox line-up, driving in Pedroia and Ellsbury while also receiving protection from Kevin Youkilis.

  1. Hey, thanks for visiting my blog. It’s my very first time here but I’ll definitely be back! Great entry!

  2. I realy hope you’re right on this one so it’s one less team vying for Carl Crawford along with the Angels, LOL.
So, out of curiosity, did you peg the Tigers for landing V-Mart or were you going to predict another team? I like your analysis so I would be interested to know.

  3. I think you could be right about Werth and the Red Sox. Not a bad fit at all, although I’d rather see him out of the Yankees’ division.

  4. Hyunyoung- Good to know! I’ll definetly be following your blog as well.
Bli- Yes, I actually did predict the Tigers getting V-Mart as well but for slightly less money. Something more like a $8 million deal. A bit worried for Tigers though because years 3 and 4 of the deal he will be an expensive 1B/DH. Just a thought to think about.
    Thanks for all the comments!

  5. I can’t disagree with him going to the Red Sox.

  6. Hey! This is my first time visiting your blog, too. Very nice 🙂
I have to say that I agree with your predicition for Werth. I already don’t like him, so I think he’d be a good fit for the Red Sox with those other guys I hate…

  7. So where did the Nationals fit into your predictions? Crazy news today!
